This one screamed revisit. About a year ago we had to leave without seeing one of the best parts. A stupid jump out of a window resulted in a visit to the hospital. After several hours of driving into central France we arrived at this beautiful morgue. The original slab is still there but sadly deconstructed and set against a wall. Its big supports rusted. But even without there are several portable once and a body carriage. Scattered about you find some documents and letters and a selection of equipment. Unfortunately several explorers saw fit to leave their name and supposedly year of visit behind. Big egos, they suck!

History

This morgue is part of sanatoirum. Probably out of use since the mid nineties of the previous century. The french word morgue means “to look at solemly”. It got its modern meaning as a place used for the storage and identification of unknown corpses in 15th century Paris. To discuss this in front of other people or children the euphemisms “Rose Cottage” and “Rainbow Room” are used in british hospitals.

Deep mining

After almost two years i managed to get back to the underground iron ore mine(s). once again we crossed the border to France underground but this time to visit a different part of this impressive mining structure.

Exploration
The first location during our french leg of the summer tour. After finishing the first big building i ripped open my hand jumping out of an open window to take and outside shot. It didn’t hurt at all but bled terribly. We managed to stop it and spend another 1,5 hour inside these buildings before going to a doctor. She wasn’t very friendly and more interested in her children. I only managed to get some directions to a hospital. There we spend anothor two hours getting stitches and waiting for the results of a tetanus test. This was a small town hospital but very friendly and competent people.

Exploration
Second visit to Italy and second the last we visited with our friend Drex italian explorer pur sang. This orphanage is mostly famous for its beautiful main stairs. But it some other nice surprises like a chapel with wall paintings, nice corridors and rooms.
I just realised this will be the last blog entry of 2010. See you next year!
